What we don’t see also matters: immunology and research in MPN

Every day, the body carries out complex processes to maintain balance and protect us. The immune system works continuously, responding to what happens both inside and outside the body.

On the World Immunology Day, we highlight something that is not always visible, yet essential to our daily lives: the body’s ability to protect, balance and respond.

When the body’s balance changes

In many cases, these mechanisms work silently and effectively. However, there are situations where this balance is altered.

In conditions such as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), blood cell behaviour changes due to alterations in key biological processes, including cell signalling and regulation within the bone marrow. Understanding these changes is essential to address them.

The role of research in immunology

Even though the body has its own protective mechanisms, many questions remain unanswered in the field of immunology and MPN.

Research plays a key role in advancing knowledge, identifying new therapeutic targets, and developing approaches that may improve disease management and quality of life.

In complex and rare conditions such as MPN, research not only expands understanding but also opens new possibilities for care.

Understanding to improve care

Scientific knowledge helps transform how we understand disease. Understanding what happens in the body supports patients, healthcare professionals and researchers in moving towards a more informed and connected approach to care.

Because while the body is constantly working to protect us, advancing research remains essential to improve outcomes.
