As the final surprise of our Advent Calendar, the Global MPN Scientific Foundation is proud to share a very special holiday gift with our community: an exclusive interview with Prof. Radek Skoda and Prof. Ruben Mesa, recorded in connection with one of the most important moments of ASH 2025.

This unique conversation brings together two of the most influential leaders in myeloproliferative neoplasms. Both were honored with the Ernest Beutler Lecture and Prize, a distinction that recognizes not only landmark scientific discovery, but also decades of work translating molecular insight into real progress for patients.

Why this interview matters
This webinar-style conversation follows a powerful and very human structure: where we started, where we are today, and where we are going next.
Prof. Skoda reflects on the early days when very little was known about MPN biology, and on how curiosity-driven research opened the door to understanding the genetic basis of these diseases, including the discovery and characterization of JAK2 mutations, which accelerated the field worldwide.
Prof. Mesa shares the clinical reality of those early years, when treatment options were limited and often based on trial and error. He explains how the discovery of JAK2V617F changed everything, leading to a new era of targeted therapies and a much clearer path for clinical development and trials.
Together, they show how progress in MPNs happens when basic science and clinical science move forward side by side, supported by collaboration across countries, institutions and research groups.
A holiday message from the Global MPN Scientific Foundation
This final Advent Calendar surprise reflects what defines our community: science with purpose, collaboration across disciplines, and a shared commitment to patients and families worldwide.
We are proud to close the year by honoring excellence, curiosity and compassion, and by sharing a conversation that celebrates not only individual achievements, but the collective progress of the entire MPN field.
Thank you for being part of the Global MPN Family, today and as we move forward together.
