A fable that humanizes illness

There are stories that inform.

There are stories that accompany them.

And there are stories that transform.

The fable of the Kingdom of Blood , written by Dr. Arnel Rodríguez, is much more than a creative story about bone marrow and the JAK2, CALR, and MPL genes. It is a profound act of generosity. It is how a patient with polycythemia vera chooses to explain his illness not from fear, but from knowledge and shared hope.

Today we want to dedicate this blog to thanking you.

In his story, the Kingdom of the Bone Marrow comes to life. Red blood cells , platelets , and white blood cells cease to be medical terms and become peoples with a mission and purpose. Mutated genes cease to be abstract concepts and transform into confused advisors.

With extraordinary sensitivity, Dr. Arnel achieves something that is not easy: translating the biological complexity of myeloproliferative neoplasms into a comprehensible, kind, and profoundly human narrative .

That ability doesn't come solely from medical knowledge. It comes from empathy.

Talking about treatment in a country like Cuba adds an additional dimension to the challenge.

Access to certain medications, the availability of therapeutic options, waiting times, limitations of the healthcare system, and logistical difficulties make living with a chronic illness like MPN even more demanding.

Managing medical uncertainty is difficult enough. Doing so in a context of limited resources requires extraordinary resilience.

That's why her voice has special value. Because she doesn't just represent a patient. She represents a reality that exists in Latin American countries.

From patient to ambassador.

With humility and commitment, Dr. Arnel Rodríguez has become our ambassador and Cuban representative of the MPN community .

Her testimony builds bridges. Her story connects cultures. Her fable educates patients and families. Her attitude inspires those just beginning this journey.

Being an ambassador doesn't mean not being afraid, it means moving forward with responsibility and awareness.

In his moral, Arnel reminds us that:

“Although genes can give wrong orders, true strength lies in vigilance, daily care, and shared hope.”

That phrase sums up who we are as a community . medicine is Fundamental . Science advances . But support, information , and community also sustain it .

Stories like Dr. Arnel's remind us why it is so important to strengthen our community.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms remain poorly understood diseases with significant medical and social needs, especially in countries where access to treatments and resources is limited.

If you wish to support:

Thank you, Dr. Arnel!

Thank you for transforming your experience into teaching.

Thank you for your sensitivity.

Thank you for reminding us that even in difficult contexts, hope can be built.

Thank you for representing Cuba within our GLOBAL community.

The Kingdom of the Marrow continues.

And it becomes even stronger when patients like you decide to share their story.

With admiration and gratitude,

From the Global MPN Scientific Foundation family and with your MPN LATAM community.
